Alabama Estate Tax Filings No Longer Required

As a result of the federal tax changes enacted in 2001, Alabama’s federal estate tax credit has been reduced proportionately over a four-year period, with the final phase-out of the credit effective Jan. 1, 2005. Therefore, estates where the decedent’s date of death is after Dec. 31, 2004, or before Jan. 1, 2011, are not required to file with Alabama. Read More...

Colorado Estate Tax

The Colorado estate tax does not apply to decedents whose date of death is on or after January 1, 2005. The Colorado estate tax is based on the state death tax credit allowable on the federal return. The credit was eliminated effective December 31, 2004 as a result of federal estate tax law changes.
